If you could be any font, which one would you be and why?

I don't think I could describe myself as any one font, if hard pressed I suppose I would have to be something hand drawn, something elegant like a script that embraces its imperfection, something fun, something that looks hand crafted. I would be an illustration that looks at home in a moleskin notebook next to a bright pink Italian soda. I could never characterize myself as having been created by anyone else, nor could I categorize myself. Modern, geometric, transitional- they all have their place. As a designer I try to draw my own type as often as possible. Typography is so integral to any given piece, and making it unique is important to me.

BLACK FISH

BlackFish is a project that was completed for 2nd year illustration class. It is a brand for a downtown Vancouver coffee shop. The primary market is young and hip, so I did an ironically super vintage (throwing back to the middle ages) woodcut drawing accompanied with hand done blackletter script. I kept the colour palate minimal to not draw away from the woodcut illustration. I chose one subtle modern blue to serve as a backdrop only.

LOVE ORGANIC

LoveOrganic is a project that was completed for 2nd year environmental sustainability class. The scope of the assignment was to create an awareness campaign surrounding an environmental issue – choosing organic. The illustration style is modern and simple, as with the type choices, to stray away from the "garden and farm" look most organic or green campaigns employ. The colour palate is earthy and fresh, with only minimal use of green. The photography style is raw and shot at a local farm. The infographic style is busy and very cramped but flows from bad to good – like positive change.

NISSAN LEAF

The Nissan Leaf magazine ad was completed for an e-publication class. I chose a very juvenile, simple illustration style to draw attention away from the illustration of the car, while simultaneously surrounding the car with positivity. The type is big and vibrant as well to counterbalance the barely there car. The idea was to show that the car does not have a large environmental impact and was "barely there".
