IdleMate is an app that tracks social media usage on all devices in an attempt to breakdown an individual's social media habits and encourage productivity. This piece suffered from a lack of support pieces and some rendering and legibility issues.
We spend an average of 1 hour and 40 minutes browsing social media each day. The average time spent browsing on a mobile device is 4.7 hours per day. This accounts for almost one third of our time spent awake.
Our phones don’t remind us of the time we are wasting being bored. Obviously, this can cause productivity issues as well as lead to “social media/internet addiction,” and that sounds pretty terrifying.
IdleMate is a social media tracking application that allows a user to view their social media habits in infographic form. The user can then learn how much time they are wasting on social media and not being creative or productive. The app can suggest things to do, and as you accumulate hours in the app, it “rewards” the user with badges.
The badges are used to share the app over social media in an ironic way. The badges compare your time to the time it took some famous people to achieve their goals. This allows people to become more interested and challenge their friends to reduce social media usage, whilst learning a thing or two in the process.
