What has shaped you?
The not so obvious answer, would be my interest
in horror culture. All these aspects find their way
into the shapes I create, in one form or another. I
am heavily influenced by horror designers, such as
Justin Erickson and Gary Pullin. They have taught
me that being different and outside of the herd,
are good things.
corporate identity
Challenge: Design a corporate manual for an existing company. Solution:
I redesigned the Airmiles logo, creating a more clean,
fun and modern look. The manual I designed was
based around these aspects.
icon set
Challenge:
Create an icon set for use on a device such as an
iPhone or iPad, using a theme. Solution: I used a vintage Victorian theme to
represent modern technology. I chose simple
silhouettes as well, to stand out from the aqua
button.
illustration
Challenge:
Design a cover of The New York Times using an
illustrative style inspired by the illustrator/musician
being showcased. Solution: I chose Tim Burton for my cover, and simulated his
pen and ink style using illustrator. I also combined
watercolor textures to really emphasis that "Tim
Burton feel."
poster design
Challenge:
Design a gig poster for a band of your choice,
using a maximum of four colors, taking into
consideration it's application to other media.
Solution: For my design I chose Rasputina, and used
imagery taken from their song lyrics. I created a
simple illustration using only two colors, for easy
screen printing.
stamp design
Challenge:
Design a stamp and associated applications, for the
2010 International Year of Forests.
Solution: To hit the message home of forest preservation,
I used a dashed line to represent what we would
be missing if all the forests and trees were gone.
I carried this element through each piece for
continuity and reiteration of the theme.
