10th Annual Graphic Design Exhibition
April 18th, 2012
SRO & Old Rock Cafe
Cambrian College's School of Creative Arts and Design is proud to present 848, the 10th Annual Graduate Exhibition of the College's Graphic Design and Art and Design Fundamentals programs, as well as the first graduating class from the Animation program.
848 is as much a statistic as it is a visual representation of projects and pieces crafted by the classes of 2012. 848 is the combined total number of days spent in studio by Graphic Design, Art and Design Fundamentals, and Animation students at Cambrian College throughout their respective programs. The exhibition pieces are derived from a multitude of disciplines reflective of both the diverse and common creative elements that connect these programs – from drawing, painting, printmaking, and photography to integrated media and sculpture, environmental and graphic design, website design, illustration, and animation.
The result: an incomparable mix of work from more than 30 students that provides a creative measurement of the time, effort, and determination demonstrated by the classes of 2012.
Annual Treeplant
Oct. 7th, 2011 / 8:30am
Room 3503, Cambrian College
Graphic Designers, Animators, and Art Fundamental students use more paper than most. That's why 5 years ago, Ron Beltrame started a tradition that helps to make the Art and Design programs at Cambrian College carbon neutral.
To date, we've planted 5000 trees in selected plots around Sudbury. Join us, this Friday as we make that number 6000.
Meet us in room 3503 at 8:30am with shovel (or trowel), appropriate clothes and a good pair of hiking shoes. We will return to the college by 11:00am, where we will meet for pizza and beverages.
If you're involved in the industry of Graphic Design, Animation or Art come on out and help us make Sudbury and our industry a little greener.

How do you celebrate the creative industries that make our lives so fulfilling? Bring them all together and use their strengths to create an evening of good food, live-music and arts.
That's exactly what a small, dedicated group of Cambrian Profs planned. Pastry Chef Professor, Jean-Guy Robichaud and his students provided the specialty chocolates; Ron Beltrame created the campaign and environmental design; Music Students performed; Animation and Graphic Design students supplied original artwork for the draw; Richard Neufeld silk-screened t-shirts as give-aways; Journalism Students and Faculty documented the event; and Art Fundamental Students painted.
Check out the coverage generated around the event!

Tree Plant 2010
Oct. 15th, 2010
Cambrian College, Sudbury Ontario
In the fall of 2007 the Graphic Design students and faculty gathered to help rejuvenate the Sudbury forests. That year over 850 trees were donated by Inco (Vale) and planted near the heart of the city.
This year, 1500 trees were planted and over 80 students, faculty and alumni took part. In the years that this initiative has been running, over 4500 trees have been planted to lessen the impact of our paper consumption.
Environmental 2009
Oct. 15th, 2009
Exhibition Place, Toronto
The Graphic Design Faculty rolled out the "Environmental" campaign in the fall of 2009. This promo got some attention when exhibited at a Toronto Trade Show, Explore Design.
In contrast to slick graphics and expensive booths, this exhibit focussed on conscientious design thinking. During the event, custom silk-screened American Apparel tees and pine saplings were given away, instead of piles of paper and program info.
This independent video was made by Andrew Knapp and Sean Grant and displayed at the event. It is shot using Cambrian Graphic Design Students as models, in the Graphic Design facilities.
